Where is Little Traverse Inn?
Legend tells a story about a young Indian maiden, Leelinau, Lost Daughter, who chose to live forever in the forest and along the lakeshore of what is now called Leelanau, or Land of Delight. Once you visit Leelanau County and stay with Graeme and his wonderful staff at Little Traverse Inn, you will see why no one likes to leave – just like Leelinau – and many choose to return to this magical destination time and time again.
Just minutes from Little Traverse Inn, is Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The beach along the National Lakeshore was recently chosen by Frommer’s as one of the 100 Best Beaches in the world because of the gleaming sand and sparkling water!
Not be left out of the legends, the story of Sleeping Bear Dunes is one of the love of a mother bear (Sleeping Bear Dunes) for her cubs (North and South Manitou Islands).
The legend says, “that when the sun begins to set, you can still hear the mother bear singing to her cubs across the lake.” And once the sun sets, you’ll hear Graeme and Judy calling you to dinner back at Little Traverse Inn.
“I’ve heard about this part of Michigan, but truly had no idea how breathtaking it all is! Everywhere we went either hiking, biking, kayaking, or on our leisurely drive between wine tours; we fell in love with this place! Make sure to have Graeme pack a special picnic lunch or sunset dinner – super romantic!” Lisa T., Illinois.
